Department of Chemistry offers Ph.D. Program affiliated to University of Madras. Ph.D. program shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Research in chemistry department of QMC mainly focuses on Organic synthesis, Nano technology and development of catalysts.Drug discovery is the main interest of the research. It is an interface science that combines Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Nano biotechnology. The modern pharmaceutical drug discovery and development is a pipeline process starts with disease selection, Target identification, Lead identification, Lead optimization, Pre-Clinical trial testing, Clinical trial testing. Bioinformatics tools and softwares are used in drug designing and discovery in BIFC center, QMC. Funded by DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.
