About Department
The Department aims to strengthen skills and potentials of students through scientific principles, knowledge, research and experience. It strives to enhance the standard of the students and the community, through teaching, research and extension activities.
History
The Department started with a single undergraduate course B.Sc. Home Science in 1942. Under the umbrella of Home Science, the Department has expanded to include two undergraduate courses namely —B.Sc. Nutrition Food Service Management and Dietetics and B.Sc. - Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics alongside three postgraduate courses M.Sc. - Family Resource Management, M.Sc.- Foods and Nutrition , M.Sc. Food Service Management and Dietetics, and two M. Phil courses-M.Phil.- Foods and Nutrition and M.Phil. Family Resource Management.
Vision
To create a crop of competent studentswho could be groomed as professionals in nutritional care; food industry; food service industry;or function as entrepreneurs or serve as resourceful home makers.
Mission
The mission of the department is to enhance the standard of students and community, through teaching, research and extension activities. The main focus is on empowerment to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The mission is translated into action with the following objectives:
To build competencies among students through a rigorous curriculum that facilitates deep learning, provides adequate practical exposure, hands on training through internships, industrial collaborations, extension activities; hones communication skills and use of technology.
To equip students to serve in clinical or community settings with a solid foundation in the principles of nutrition and dietetics
To develop managerial skills to function as an entrepreneur or serve in food service establishments
To stimulate intellectual curiosity to engage in higher learning or pursue research

Programme Outcome
The outcome of the UG / PG program in Home Science would be to create an individual with very high knowledge in the subject concepts, develop good communication skills through frequent seminars and digitally conversant through presentations, get inclined to analyze and solve problems, have a quest for enquiry and learning.
- The program also gives abundant opportunity for students to pursue disciplinary cum systematic learning ,
- enhance and explore her communication skill set ,
- undergo thorough training in analyzing problems,
- motivated to learn through questions and updated topics ,
- work in teams
- to take initiatives ,
- become digitally efficient ,
- embrace moral values,
- be aware of the resources available to equip knowledge,
- earnest to be self-learner
- and project their findings globally.
However, it is up to the student to take her thought initiative forward to reach her goal. The skill levels are checked on a scale of 3 and correlated as low (1), moderate (2) and strong (3) for each unit of the course to arrive at the total correlation of skills for the program. Any level of skill below 30 % is not correlated and left as blank.
