About Department
Queen Mary’s College, established in 1914, is a hub for women’s empowerment through education and all-round development. Committed to academic and athletic excellence, the college nurtures talent through its Department of Physical Education, offering rigorous training in various sports. With a sprawling 39,648-square-meter play area, students actively participate in volleyball, basketball, handball, kabaddi, and other sports, excelling at the intercollegiate, district, state, and national levels. The kabaddi team, in particular, has dominated tournaments for seven consecutive years. Beyond competitive sports, the college promotes fitness and well-being through workshops on sports psychology and nutrition, helping athletes maintain peak performance. Students receive specialized coaching in yoga, gymnastics, and silambam, enhancing both physical and mental strength. Dedicated faculty mentor students, while annual sports festivals celebrate achievements and encourage participation, reinforcing sports as an integral part of education and character building. Through these initiatives, Queen Mary’s College continues to shape confident, well-rounded women ready to excel in all spheres of life.
