The work ethos at the Department of English, QMC is informed by the simple yet powerful adage - "Learning is a way of life". Research therefore is not focussed merely on producing PhD scholars, but "thinkers" as well. "Together We Grow" is the motto of In Tandem, the research club of the department. In keeping with this motto, fortnightly meeting on a research topic are arranged. A Chairperson (a well-known academician) sets the context of every meeting and navigates the discussion that follows the paper presentations. The Chairperson and Paper Presenters are awarded certificates. In the academic year 2021-22, a wide range of topics which included Black Lives Matter, Ecocriticism, Gay and Lesbian Studies, Refugee Studies and Disability Studies was covered in 22 Sessions.
For the year 2022-23, the Department will be pursuing a theme-based series under the title "The Prize-Winning Story". The sessions will examine and explore prize winning texts and their contexts. Well-known international prizes like the Nobel Prize, the Booker, the Pulitzer and national award winning texts which have secured the Jnanpith or Sahitya Akademi award will also be a part of this wide canvas, apart from lesser known regional prizes. Awards for film journalism feature in the proposed series.
The year 2022-23, will also witness the publication of the best papers. The proposed name of the research journal is The Word and the World. It is sincerely hoped that the postgraduate students and research scholars of the Department of English, will seize this opportunity for growing together and shape up into dynamic thinkers who produce high-quality research.
