About the Department
The Department of Computer Science was started in the year 1990. Initially the department had Bachelor's degree programme in Computer Science. Later, the department was upgraded with the addition of shift II in 2007 and Master's degree programme in Computer Science in the year 2012. Efforts are on to soon convert it into a research department. There are 8 well-experienced faculty members with NET/SET qualifications in the department out of whom four have their PhDs. Every year campus interview is conducted through placement cell and students were placed in top ranking IT companies and BPOs.
History
Before the creation of the Computer Science Department, formal programming courses were taught through the Maths Department. As course offerings grew, computer science became an integral part of the education. When Computer Science was recast as a department in 1990, it started undergraduate course with a single staff member in the annex of Mathematics department. Later the number of staff members was increased to four. In 2007, the department started running in the new Computer Science block which had three classrooms, two labs (computer science lab and digital lab) and a staff room.
In 2007, shift II was introduced with a single GL. Later on, the no. of GLs were increased to five. In 2012, M.Sc. was started with a sanction of 4 permanent staff. So the department staff strength increased to 8. PG lab was established in 2018.
